Furious Comeback, No-Hitter Lifts No. 15 ESU to Road Sweep of Shepherd

The Warriors trailed 5-0 in game one, but still earned a 6-5 victory.

EAST STROUDSBURG – Despite trailing 5-0 in game one, the 15th ranked East Stroudsburg University softball team recorded six unanswered runs late and used momentum to earn a 11-0 win after Sarah Davenport tossed a five-inning no-hitter in game two against Shepherd on Friday afternoon at Sara Cree Field.

With the pair of wins, the Warriors improved to 34-8, 16-4 in PSAC East action to remain ahead of Shippensburg for first place in the PSAC East. The Rams (18-20, 8-12 PSAC East)

Pitching Notables
  • Sarah Davenport dazzled in the circle once again, picking up a save in game one, along with tossing a no-hitter victory (17) in game two. On the day, she did not allow a hit, striking out 11 batters in just six innings of work.
  • Davenport lowered her ERA to below 1.00, now with a 0.99 ERA. Her WHIP dropped to .84 and now has 200 strikeouts in 113 innings of work. She becomes the first Warrior to register 200 strikeouts in a season and there are still 12 regular-season games remaining.
  • Paige Zigmund (W, 15-4) got the win in game one, allowing four hits, three earned runs and five walks, while striking out four batters.
  • Landrum pitched 2.2 innings in game one, giving up three hits, an earned run (2 total).
Batting Notables
  • Katie Master (3-5, 4 RBI, 4 runs) blasted a home run in each game, scoring two four runs. She now has eight home runs on the season, which is tied for the third most in a single season with Jada Smallwood (2023).
  • Reilly Vicendese (4-8, 3 RBI, 3B, 3 runs, SB) and Abigail Weirich (3-6, 3 RBI, HR, 3 runs, 2 SB) each drove in three runs. Weirich now has 32 RBIs on the season.
  • Delaney Ridgell (2-6, 2 RBI) drove in the tying and go-ahead runs in game one to help complete the comeback in game one.
  • Taylor Lipkins (2-6, 2 RBI, 3B) also drove in multiple runs.
  • Kaitlin Houser blasted her second home run of the season to help spark the comeback in game one.
No-No: Davenport's no-hitter is the first of her career and is the 11th in program history. It's the Warriors' sixth no-hitter since 2022. How It Happened – Game 1
  • The Rams started game one strong with four runs in the bottom of the 1st. With the bases loaded after an infield single and back-to-back walks, Landrum entered the game in relief. After striking out the first batter she faced, SU scored a run with a fielder's choice for the second out. The Rams added runs with an infield single and a two RBI single to grab a 4-0 lead.
  • SU added its final run of the day with an RBI single in the bottom of the 3rd.
  • The Warrior comeback started in the top of the 5th. Master smacked a two-run home run to cut the deficit to 5-2. Weirich later connected on a solo shot in the inning, as ESU trailed by just two runs at 5-3 after five frames.
  • Houser followed in the top of the 6th with a solo home run in the top of 6th, to make it a 5-4 contest.
  • Just an out away from a loss, Ridgell connected on the go-ahead two RBI single to score Weirich and Vicendese. Suddenly the Warriors led 6-5.
  • Davenport entered the circle in the bottom of the 7th and retired the side in order for her fifth save of the season.
How It Happened – Game 2
  • With Davenport not allowing a hit, Shepherd had just one base runner via an error, tossing the five-inning no-hit shutout.
  • The Warriors took a 5-0 lead in the top of the 2nd. A two-RBI triple from Lipkins, an RBI single from Vicendese and a Weirich RBI single accounted for the five runs.
  • ESU extended its lead to 8-0 in its third at-bats, with a two-RBI triple by Vicendese and an RBI single from Weirich.
  • Master connected on her second home run of the day and her eighth of the season to make it a 10-0 contest.
  • Kate Donaghue sent a sacrifice fly to score Kylie Ingram in the 5th to wrap up the scoring.
