EAST STROUDSBURG – Led by a historic 10-goal performance from
Emily Mitarotonda, the fifth-ranked East Stroudsburg University lacrosse team closed the game on a 16-5 run to take down Shippensburg, 20-11, on Saturday afternoon at Whitenight Field.
The Warriors (7-3, 3-2 PSAC East) bounce back after a tough loss to Bloomsburg on Thursday. The Raiders (2-8, 0-5 PSAC East) fall after earning a win over IUP in crossover action.
Emily Mitarotonda posted a career-high in goals and matched her career-best in points, becoming the first Warrior since 1986 to score at least 10 goals in a single game and is just the fourth Warrior to ever reach double digits in goals in one contest. The Rockaway, N.J. native was also a force defensively, recording seven ground balls, caused five turnovers and scooped five draw controls.

- Mitarotonda now has 47 goals, 15 assists and 62 points in just 10 contents.
- In addition to Mitarotonda, Hannah Scheimer and Julianna Callison each registered hat tricks. Paige Moreland (2G, 1 A) and Mary Fitzsimmons (1G, 2A) also provided three points.
- Alexis Neumen registered her first career goal in the contest.
- Claire Hoffman caused havoc on her senior day, causing four turnovers while scooping six ground balls.
- In the cage, Bella Gismondi (W, 2-0) picked up her second victory over the past three games. She posted 10 saves in just over 50 minutes of action. Abby Simonetti made two saves while allowing a pair of goals.
History
- Mitarotonda joins Lynne Junker (13 goals vs. Montclair, 1985), Suzie Johnson (11 goals vs. Millersville, 1970) and Ann Clifton (10 goals vs. Wooster, 1986) as Warriors to score at least 10 goals in a single game.
- To this day Junker's 13 goals are a PSAC single-game record. Mitarotonda is tied for the fifth most goals among PSAC players all-time with eight players, which includes Clifton.
- Mitarotonda's 10 goals are tied for the second most in an NCAA Division II game this season.
How It Happened
- It was a game of runs, with ESU taking a 3-0 lead, before the Raiders fired four consecutive goals to take a 4-3 edge. Schiemer closed the first quarter with the equalizing goal, with ESU and Ship tied at 4-4.
- The Raiders kept momentum, taking a 6-4 advantage on the scoreboard. The Warriors settled and closed the first half with six unanswered goals to take a 10-6 lead at halftime.
- SU opened the scoring in the third quarter, but ESU kept momentum. The Warriors closed the game on a 10-3 sprint for the 20-11 final score.
