QUAKERTOWN, Pa. – After an all-conference season on the field, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced on Wednesday that East Stroudsburg University softball junior centerfielder
Taylor Lipkins was named the PSAC Champion Scholar.
Lipkins, an exercise science major has compiled a perfect 4.0 GPA through 86 credits earned. She is the first ESU softball student-athlete to earn the honor. She was named to the All-PSAC East Second Team on Tuesday.
Lipkins – ESU's leadoff hitter – has caught fire at the plate to close the regular season, entering the postseason with a team-best 13-game hitting streak. Her 63 hits lead the team and rank ninth in the PSAC. On the season, the Georgian Court transfer is batting a team-best .358 with a .418 on-base percentage. She has scored 35 runs and currently ranks fifth in the conference with 23 stolen bases. An excellent fielder, Lipkins has posted a .971 fielding percentage with 66 putouts and two assists. She was recently featured on SportsCenter's 10 Plays for a diving catch against Mansfield.
Initiated for the 2011-12 academic year, the PSAC Champion Scholar Awards are modeled after the NCAA's Elite 90 awards and honor the student-athlete with the top grade point average who is competing at the site of each of the PSAC's 22 team championship finals.
The Champion Scholar is awarded at each of the league's 22 championship sites, given to the student-athlete at the finals site with the highest grade point average with a minimum of accumulation of 48 credit hours. In the event of a tie, the student-athlete with the most credits is declared the winner.
Lipkins becomes the ESU's 25th PSAC Champion Scholar Selection and the 20th Warrior in athletic department history since the award began in 2011-12.
