NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced on Wednesday that five members of the East Stroudsburg University lacrosse team were selected to IWLCA All-Region teams.
Emily Mitarotonda, Abby Simonetti and Olivia Wenrich were named to the IWLCA All-Atlantic Region First Team, while Claire Hoffman and Hannah Schiemer earned IWLCA All-Atlantic Region Second Team status.
Mitarotonda becomes the first Warrior in program history to earn all-region status by the IWLCA All-Region in all four seasons, landing on the Atlantic Region First Team each time from 2021-24. Mitarotonda, who became the all-time PSAC leader in career goals and third in NCAA DII history against Kutztown in the regular season finale, led ESU in nearly every statistical category in 2024. Among national leaders, the Rockaway, N.J. native ranks first in free-position goals per game, third in goals per game, fourth in goals and points per game, fifth in caused turnovers per game and eighth in points per game as one if not the most productive player in NCAA Division II this season.
In 2024, Mitarotonda has totaled 86 goals, 24 assists, 110 points, 61 ground balls, 51 caused turnovers and 93 draw controls, which leads ESU in all categories. She is just nine goals away from becoming second all-time in NCAA DII history in goals, now with 302 in her career. She has also complied 73 assists for 375 career points. Defensively, she has scooped 209 ground balls, caused 151 turnovers and earned 370 draw controls through the past four seasons.
Simonetti earns her first regional honor of her career after performing among the top goalkeepers in NCAA DII in 2024. She currently leads the nation in save percentage and ranking second in saves, fifth in saves per game and 10th in goals-against average. On the season, the Millington, Md. native holds an 8-6 record with 200 saves, a .613 save percentage and an 8.49 goals-against average. She has reached double-digits in saves in 12 contests, including a 27-save performance (most by a Warrior since 2006) against Kutztown in the regular-season finale for a crucial win over the Golden Bears. She was previously recognized on the All-PSAC East Second Team.
Wenrich lands on an all-region squad for the second consecutive season, after being selected to the IWLCA All-Region Second Team in 2023. The Mohnton, Pa. product started all 16 games for the Warriors at defender, recording 15 ground balls and eight caused turnovers. She was a key cog in helping the Warriors rank 16th in scoring defense and sixth in ground balls per game. She caused multiple turnovers in three contests, including undefeated Pace and scooped at least one ground ball in 11 games. In 54 career games, the Governor Mifflin graduate tallied 49 ground balls and 25 caused turnovers.
Hoffman has helped lead the 16th-best scoring defense in the country. The Downingtown, Pa. native has recorded 38 ground balls, and 18 caused turnovers. In her Warrior career, the senior has totaled 75 ground balls, and 34 caused turnovers. She posted three caused turnovers against one of the top teams in the country in West Chester and set a season-best mark of four against Shippensburg. A vacuum when it comes to ground balls, Hoffman totaled at least four ground balls in five contests, including a season-best six against the Raiders. She previously was named to the All-PSAC East First Team in 2024.
Schiemer, the 2023 PSAC East Freshman of the Year, lands on the IWLCA All-Region Second Team for the second consecutive season. She scored 30 goals on the season, ranking only behind Mitarotonda. She tied for second on the Warriors in points. She scored game-winning goals against nationally-ranked Adelphi and Millersville. A total of eight of her 30 goals came via the free position and earned 15 ground balls for ESU. The Prince Frederick, Md. native registered at least one goal in 14 of 18 games so far on the season, which includes a season-high five-goal outburst against Millersville.
The five Warriors look to lead ESU to a win in the NCAA Tournament First Round on Thursday against Kutztown, hosted at West Chester's Vonnie Gros Field. The first draw between the Warriors and Golden Bears is set for 3:00 p.m.
