Mitarotonda Tabbed PSAC East Athlete of the Year, Hoffman, Simonetti Named All-PSAC

5/8/2024 2:30:00 PM

LOCK HAVEN – Highlighted by senior midfielder Emily Mitarotonda becoming the first East Stroudsburg University women’s lacrosse program history to be named PSAC East Athlete of the Year multiple times and the first Warrior to be selected to the All-PSAC East First Team in all four seasons, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) announced its lacrosse all-conference teams on Wednesday afternoon.

Joining Mitarotonda on the All-PSAC East First Team was senior defender Claire Hoffman. Junior goalkeeper Abby Simonetti rounded out the Warrior honorees on the All-PSAC East Second Team.

Mitarotonda, who became the all-time PSAC leader in career goals and third in NCAA DII history against Kutztown in the regular season finale, led ESU in almost every statistical category in 2024. Among national leaders, the Rockaway, N.J. native ranks first in free-position goals per game, third in goals per game, fourth in goals and points per game, fifth in caused turnovers per game and eighth in points per game as one if not the most productive player in NCAA Division II this season.

In 2024, Mitarotonda has totaled 86 goals, 24 assists, 110 points, 61 ground balls, 51 caused turnovers and 93 draw controls, which leads ESU in all categories. She is just nine goals away from becoming second all-time in NCAA DII history in goals, now with 302 in her career. She has also complied 73 assists for 375 career points. Defensively, she has scooped 209 ground balls, caused 151 turnovers and earned 370 draw controls through the past four seasons. She has been recognized by the PSAC as its athlete of the week four times and has garnered national player of the week three times in 2024.

Mitarotonda joins Tatyana Petteway (2017-21) and Renee Maniscalco as the only Warriors in program history to earn All-PSAC honors in four seasons, with Mitarotonda now the first in program history to be named to the first team in all four seasons. She previously was named the PSAC East Athlete of the Year in her sophomore season, leading ESU to its first NCAA Championship appearance.

Hoffman has helped lead the 15th-best scoring defense in the country, earning her first all-conference selection in 2024 as a senior. The Downingtown, Pa. native has recorded 38 ground balls, and 18 caused turnovers. In her Warrior career, the senior has totaled 75 ground balls, and 34 caused turnovers. She posted three caused turnovers against one of the top teams in the country in West Chester and set a season-best mark of four against Shippensburg. A vacuum when it comes to ground balls, Hoffman totaled at least four ground balls in five contests, including a season-best six against the Raiders.

In her first season as a Warrior, Simonetti has proven to be one of the top goalkeepers in NCAA DII, currently leading the nation in save percentage and ranking second in saves, fifth in saves per game and 10th in goals-against average. The reigning IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week holds an 8-6 record on the season and has totaled double-digit saves in 12 contests, including her four most recent games. Simonetti stood on her head against No. 10 Kutztown in the regular season finale, recording 27 saves, the most by an NCAA DII goalkeeper in 2024 and the third most overall among all levels of NCAA women’s lacrosse. She has been named the PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week on three different occasions this season.

After falling to No. 12 Kutztown in a tough 10-8 contest in the PSAC Quarterfinals, the Warriors turn their head to the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday at 8:30 p.m. on NCAA.com.
