SCRANTON, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University tennis team registered its first win of the season and snapped a five-match losing streak to Scranton with a 7-2 victory on Saturday afternoon at Royal Courts.
The Warriors (1-1) pick up a victory in its second match of the season. The Royals fall to 0-3 on the season. ESU picked up its first win over Scranton since the 2007-08 season.
How It Happened – Doubles
- Playing in Division III rules, ESU earned wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, with Samantha Passmore and Bega Gotor beginning the day with an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles.
- Claudia Ermina and Gianina Speranza then defeated Scranton's Kyleigh McNulty and Brigid O'Mara by a score of 8-5, to take a 2-0 lead.
- Scranton's Daniella Wisniewski and Giselle Falzone cut the deficit to 2-1 with an 8-6 victory at No. 1 singles over Ariel Kelsick and Louise Boyer-Vidal.
How It Happened – Singles
- Boyer-Vidal bounced back after the doubles' loss with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Falzone.
- Gianina Speranza put the Warriors within a single point of securing victory with her second singles win of the season, taking down O'Mara by a score of 6-4, 6-3.
- At No. 1 singles, Kelsick secured ESU's first win of the season, defeating Wisnewski, 6-2, 6-3 as the Warriors grabbed a 5-1 advantage.
- With the win in hand, Gotor earned a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3 and Ermina posted a comeback 2-6, 7-5, 10-7 victory for her first singles win of the campaign over Paige Hunt at No. 5.
- In the final match, Passmore fell in a tough 10-point super breaker, falling 5-7, 6-3, 5-10.
