Men’s Soccer Draws with Mercy in Season Opener

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – In its 2024 season opener, the East Stroudsburg University men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw against Mercy.

Both the Warriors (0-0-1) and Mavericks (0-0-1) opened the season with a tie in their first match.

Notables

Despite the 0-0 result, the Warriors outshot the Mavericks 19-12, including a 12-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Mercy held a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.

Captains Nathan Bradway and Ignasi Cucurella Tuset each tallied four shots, with three on goal. Ryan Kiernan recorded four shots, two on goal. Cayetano Diaz registered three shots, all on target. Ethan Flickinger also had multiple attempts, with one on goal.

Goalkeeper Helgi Hermannsson earned the clean sheet, making two saves.

Hunter Stites and Cucurella Tuset from ESU, along with Mercy's Benjamin Van Buren, were each issued yellow cards.

Mercy goalkeeper Eirik Elvestad made 12 saves to keep the Warriors off the scoreboard.

ESU looks for its first win of the season at home on Saturday, Sept. 14, against Adelphi. The opening kick is set for 11 a.m. in the Poconos.
