EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Nia Chinapoo and Sophia Lowery scored their first goals of the season, and goalkeeper Emmy Clarkson recorded her 15th career shutout as the East Stroudsburg University women's soccer team defeated Slippery Rock 2-0 in Sunday's season opener at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
The Warriors (1-0) began the 2024 season with a win, while The Rock (0-1-1) dropped their second match after a 1-1 tie with Shepherd on Friday.
Notables:
- Chinapoo opened the scoring in the 18th minute, sending a shot over the Slippery Rock goalkeeper's head off a pass from Abby James. The high, angled shot found the top left corner. Chinapoo now has four career goals.
- Lowery added a second goal in the 63rd minute, scoring off a pass from Chinapoo. It was Lowery's first career goal.
- The Warriors led in shots 21-6, including 8-2 on goal, and had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
- Slippery Rock's Sydney Smith, Faith Diffenbacher, and Skylar Munnikhuysen received yellow cards, as did ESU's Sydnie Wright.
- Clarkson made one save to preserve her shutout, ranking fifth all-time in career shutouts at ESU.
