Warriors Knock Off Lock Haven from Top Spot in PSAC East

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — The East Stroudsburg women's basketball team defeated Lock Haven, 64-54, in convincing fashion on Saturday.

Entering the game, the Bald Eagles (9-5, 4-3) were the No. 1 team in the PSAC East, but the Warriors (6-8, 3-5) dominated, never trailing and holding the lead for all but five seconds.


Notables:

Emily Chmiel had arguably the best game of her career, recording a 37-point, 15-rebound double-double on 61.9% shooting. She also shot a perfect 11-for-11 from the free-throw line. Her 37 points are tied for the fifth-most in a game in program history. Chmiel's 11 double-doubles this season are tied for the most in a season since 2002-03. She now has 18 double-doubles in her career, the second-most by a Warrior since 2002-03.  

Brie Droege stuffed the stat sheet with five points, five rebounds, and five assists.

Corrin Gill finished with 11 points on 50% shooting, making 2-of-3 from three-point range, and added three assists.  

Izzy Vogel grabbed seven rebounds, recorded three steals, and had two assists.

The Warriors held the Bald Eagles to their third-worst shooting performance of the season at 30.9%.  


How It Happened:

ESU opened the game with a 16-2 run, fueled by 10 points from Chmiel. Brie Droege, Lacie Kringe, and Gill also contributed to the big first-quarter surge. The Warriors shot 50% from the field in the first quarter, while limiting Lock Haven to 16.7% shooting. ESU continued its strong play in the second, taking a 31-16 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Warriors pushed their lead to 19 points after free throws by Brie Droege and a bucket from Chmiel. However, Lock Haven went on a 13-2 run to cut the deficit to eight points at 37-29. Heading into the final quarter, ESU led, 43-37. Lock Haven continued to close the gap, bringing the game within five points with 2:49 remaining. ESU then closed out the game on a 9-4 run, with Jessica Polin, Gill, Brooke Droege, and Chmiel all scoring to secure the victory for the Warriors.
