EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – USA Lacrosse announced that East Stroudsburg University's
Molly Atwell,
Hannah Schiemer, and
Abby Simonetti have been named to Preseason All-America teams.
Simonetti earned a spot on the USA Lacrosse Preseason All-America First Team, with Schiemer earning a spot on the Third Team and Atwell receiving an honorable mention.
Last season, Simonetti became the first Warrior goalkeeper to earn IWLCA All-America First Team honors. She was also named the IWLCA Division II Goalkeeper of the Year. She led all of NCAA Division II in saves and save percentage while ranking third in saves per game and 13th in goals-against average. The Millington, Maryland, native posted 238 saves, the second-most in a single season by a Warrior.
Schiemer, the 2023 PSAC East Freshman of the Year, was named to the IWLCA All-Region Second Team for the second consecutive season. She scored 37 goals and was tied for second on the Warriors in points. Schiemer scored game-winning goals against nationally ranked Adelphi and Millersville. Eight of her 37 goals came via the free position, and she also earned 20 ground balls. The Prince Frederick, Maryland, native registered at least one goal in 17 of 21 games, including a season-high five-goal outing against Millersville.
Atwell made an immediate impact, starting every game as a freshman and being one of four Warriors to start in all 21 games. She was second on the team with 20 caused turnovers and third on the team in draw controls with 29. Atwell helped the defense, which was second in ground balls in the PSAC, third in goals allowed, and fifth in the PSAC in caused turnovers.
The Warriors are coming off their seventh consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament, where they won their fourth NCAA Atlantic Region championship after going 14-7 during the regular season.
