EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — The East Stroudsburg women's basketball team lost, 77-72, in overtime to West Chester Wednesday night at Koehler Fieldhouse.
The Warriors (5-8, 2-5) entered the fourth quarter down by eight but managed to outscore the Golden Rams (6-9, 4-5) 25-17 to force overtime, but ultimately fell in the extra period.
Notables:
Emily Chmiel put up her tenth double-double of the season. Chmiel finished with 21 points, 16 rebounds, three blocks, two steals and two assists.
Brie Droege had her second straight game of 15+ points along with seven rebounds and three assists.
Jessica Polin (pictured above) made four threes as apart of her 15 points, and had three steals, two rebounds and a block.
Izzy Vogel had nine rebounds with four points, three assists and two blocks.
How It Happened:
About midway through the first quarter, with ESU trailing by nine, the Warriors went on a 7-2 run, led by
Katie Geisler and Polin, to bring the score to 14-10. In the second quarter, ESU held the edge, 20-14, to take a 30-28 lead at halftime. The third quarter and early part of the fourth belonged to WCU, as the Golden Rams outscored the Warriors 29-13 to go up by 14 points with 7:46 left in regulation. ESU then went on a huge run of its own, scoring 23-7 to take a two-point lead with under 30 seconds remaining. The run was led by seven points from Polin, six points from Droege, and baskets by Chmiel, Vogel, and Geisler. With nine seconds left, the Golden Rams tied the game with a layup to force overtime, where they would eventually win, 77-72.
