EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg women's volleyball team earned a senior day win, defeating Shippensburg in four sets on Friday evening. Set scores were 23-25, 25-19, 25-13, and 25-21.
ESU improved to 22-5 overall and 12-1 in conference play to extend their win streak to 10 matches. The Warriors also ended Shippensburg's 12-match run, handing the Raiders their first conference loss as they fall to 12-1 in the PSAC and 20-7 on the season.
Notables
Kelly Crites led the floor with 16 kills and added a block for 16.5 points.
Anna Coulter led the floor with 10 total blocks and posted nine kills.
Romina Martinez added 13 kills and three blocks, while Bishop totaled five blocks and had 39 assists.
How it happened
Set 1: Shippensburg opened the match with a point off a service error before an
Allison Birtcil kill put ESU on the board. The teams traded points early, with the Warriors taking a 12-8 lead. The Raiders responded with a four point surge to even the score at 13-13. Kills from
Harry Berry and Martinez, and a service ace from
Taylor Wise put the Warriors ahead, 20-18. ESU pushed ahead 23-19, however the Raiders responded with a six point run to take the opening set.
Set 2: In the second set, both teams went on runs, eventually tying the score at nine each. A Martinez kill and a block from Coulter and Martinez put ESU in front, 15-12. Shippensburg used three kills, a service ace, and an attack error to tie the score at 17. ESU then surged ahead with a six point run, highlighted by kills from Crites and Berry, for a 23-17 lead. The Raiders collected two late kills, but ESU answered with two of its own to even the match at one set apiece.
Set 3: Shippensburg scored first with a block, but the Warriors answered decisively with a 10 point run fueled by three Coulter kills and two blocks by the Coulter/Bishop pairing. ESU maintained full control for the remainder of the set, cruising to a 25-13 win.
Set 4: ESU took a 5-4 lead on a Wise ace and two Martinez kills. A brief three point push gave the Warriors a 10-7 edge before both teams traded points. Shippensburg used a five point run to move ahead 19-17. After exchanging kills, ESU went on a six point run to put the Warriors in set point position, 24-20. A service ace, blocks from Coulter/Crites and Bishop/Coulter, and a kill from Bishop highlighted that run. The Raiders added one more kill before Crites sealed the match with her final kill for a 25-21 win.
