EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg women's volleyball team wrapped up the regular season with a five-set victory over Shepherd, extending it's win streak to 11 matches and securing the PSAC East title. Set scores were 25-20, 20-25, 27-25, 18-25, and 15-4.
The Warriors finished the regular season 23-5 overall and 13-1 in the conference while the Rams closed out the regular season 19-9 overall and 8-6 in conference action.
Notables
Anna Coulter led the floor with 16 kills and posted nine blocks, including four solos. Kelly Crites contributed 12 kills, including the game winning kill, and two blocks. Harry Berry also had a strong night at the net posting nine total blocks, ahead of Kyra Bishop with six. Marta Leeland led the team with four service aces, with three players contributing two each.
How it happened
Set 1: The opening set began with the team's trading points until the Warriors used a five point run to get in front by four, 14-10. A kill from Crites, service ace from Coulter, and a block from Berry put ESU ahead by seven, 20-13. Shepherd got back within two at 22-20, however three consecutive kills gave ESU the first set, 25-20.
Set 2: The Warriors used a kill from Martinez, two attack errors, and a Leeland service error to get a 4-0 lead. A Rams kill put them within one as the teams took turns trading points. Shepherd tied the score at nine each which sparked a six point run to go up by five, 14-9. Coulter added two points and Bishop followed with a kill to bring ESU back within one at 16-15. However, a service ace and a kill helped Shepherd close out the second set, 25-20.
Set 3: The teams traded points early on before the Rams scored six consecutive to jump ahead, 9-2. The Warriors answered with an 8-2 run to close the gap, 19-15. Two consecutive service aces from Leeland tied the set at 22 each. Shepherd used a kill to get in front at 25-24, however ESU posted two kills to take the third set, 27-25.
Set 4: The teams remained close throughout the beginning of the set until Shepherd jumped ahead and took the fourth, 25-18.
Set 5: Coulter's kill and Kovacs's service ace put the Warriors on the board first, 2-0. Shepherd responded with two points of their own until ESU surged with 10 point run, 12-2. The Rams added two more points, but the Warriors closed out the set 15-4 with kills from Coulter and Crites.
