EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg women's basketball team defeated Staten Island in their home opener, 74-41 Saturday afternoon.

Through the first half, Avery White led the floor with 16 points and went 4-7 beyond the arc. White totaled 24 points, six baskets beyond the arc, and grabbed five rebounds. Brooke Droege followed with 12 points, six rebounds, and had four assists. Jess Devine led the floor with four steals and also grabbed four rebounds.

The Warriors opened the first quarter with a six-point run before the Dolphins made their first basket at 5:32. White made her first three pointer of the game at 4:52 and was assisted by Brooke, 9-4. White hit two more back to back three pointers around the 2:30 mark to extend their lead to 15-4. White continued her 11-point run with a jumper at the 1:40 minute mark. The Dolphins added a free throw and a three pointer to pull within seven, 17-10.
In the second quarter, the Warriors used a seven-point run to get ahead by 15, 26-11. Emma Thornton's jumper and Cailtin Marten's layup put the Warriors ahead by 17 points with three minutes left on the clock. Baskets from Brie Droege and Thornton sent the Warriors into the half up 34-16.
White's three pointer at 7:42 in the third quarter put ESU ahead by 20 points. The Dolphins scored five in a row to pull within 15 points, 39-24. The Warriors finished the quarter with an 11-0 run to extend their lead to 54-29.
Kaitlyn McGeary made the first basket in the fourth quarter and was followed by a steal from Brie and finish from Lacie Kringe. Staten Island scored six in a row before McKayla Strunk sank her first career three pointer at 3:31, 65-39. Thornton came up with three straight steals in a 30 second span, each leading to a score that stretched the lead to 32 points with 2:21 remaining. Strunk's three pointer at 1:26 closed out the scoring for the Warriors as the Dolphins scored their final basket at 1:08.
