Field Hockey to Face West Chester in NCAA Tournament as Four Seed

11/9/2025 9:30:00 PM

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — The East Stroudsburg field hockey team will be making its 10th-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament, making the postseason as the four seed and slated to take on West Chester.

The Warriors will face the fifth-seeded Golden Rams in the first round, a matchup of PSAC Tournament semifinalists. The two teams have only met once in the NCAA Tournament, back in 2015 when the Warriors defeated the Golden Rams in the national semifinals, 6-2. ESU won the first of its two national championships that year, the other title coming in 2022. The Golden Rams own a significant advantage in the head-to-head series going back to 1949, as the Warriors are just 13-40-6 when going against West Chester. However, since 2015, the Warriors are 11-7 in the matchup, including a split in the four times they've played each other in the PSAC Championships.

The two teams faced each other earlier in the season in ESU's first PSAC game of the 2025 campaign, with West Chester taking a 2-1 overtime victory at Vonnie Gros Field. Both teams scored in the third quarter, with West Chester getting the game-winning goal six minutes into the overtime period. The Warriors went on a 9-1 run to end the regular season, finishing with the second-best record in the conference while West Chester finished as the fourth-seed in the PSAC.

The game will take place Saturday afternoon at Whitenight Field in East Stroudsbug, Pa. More information on tickets and coverage will be at esuwarriors.com later in the week.
