EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg women's basketball team topped Pitt-Johnstown 70-66 in a home matchup on Saturday.
The Warriors improved to 7-2 overall and 2-1 in conference action while the Mountain Cats dropped to 3-7 overall and 0-3 in the PSAC.
Notables
Brie Droege led the Warriors with 19 points, grabbed six rebounds, and added four assists. Avery White and Jess Devine combined for 27 points, five steals, and each made two three-pointers. Brooke Droege grabbed seven rebounds while Lacie Kringe added five assists.
The Warriors shot 41.1% from the field, 76.0% from the charity stripe, and made five three-pointers.
The victory placed East Stroudsburg first in the PSAC East standings and marked head coach Liz Flooks' 20th career win at ESU.
How it happened
White made the first basket of the game, and Brie followed with an eight-point run to put the Warriors ahead 10-9 at 5:18. Devine hit a three-pointer at 3:07 and UPJ followed with one of their own to take the lead, 15-13. A basket from Kringe and Devine's second three-pointer pushed ESU ahead 21-15. The Mountain Cats added a final three-pointer at 0:52, and ESU's Emma Thornton made a jumper to send the Warriors into the second quarter up, 23-18.
ESU opened the second quarter with an 11-0 run to go up by 16 points around the five-minute mark, 34-18. White added five points before UPJ ended the quarter on a 9-0 run. The Warriors headed into the half ahead, 39-31.
Brooke scored the Warriors first seven points in the third quarter before White made her second three-pointer at 5:25, 49-39. The Mountain Cats cut the deficit to six points to end the third, 55-49.
Devine and Brie added layups before UPJ hit consecutive three-pointers to come within two points, 59-57. The quarter ended with a layup from Kringe at 1:53, five made free throws from ESU, and a jumper from UPJ.
