EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University women's basketball team picked up a hard-fought 54-49 victory over Shippensburg in Koehler Fieldhouse on Saturday.
With the win, the Warriors (11-12, 8-9) are now just a game back from the No. 3 spot in the PSAC East, while the Raiders (8-16, 5-13) drop to the No. 8 spot in the PSAC East.
Notables
Emily Chmiel was a standout performer, leading the team with 25 points and 10 rebounds on 9-of-13 shooting. Chmiel also surpassed 500 points this season, now at 517. She is 55 points away from breaking the school record for most points in a season.
Izzy Vogel played a key role off the bench, scoring 12 points and grabbing six rebounds in 33 minutes. She shot 4-of-7 from the field and added valuable support on both ends of the floor.
Jessica Polin had a game-high six assists, which also ties her career high set earlier this month against Shepherd.
How It Happened
The game was tightly contested throughout. Shippensburg started strong, taking a 15-13 lead in the first quarter. East Stroudsburg fought back in the second quarter, but Shippensburg remained ahead with a 28-24 advantage at halftime.
The Warriors were able to tie the game at 28, but the Raiders managed to climb to a six-point advantage heading into the fourth.
In the final quarter, ESU took its first lead of the game off a
Corrin Gill three-pointer to go up 43-42 with 5:16 to go.
Shippensburg later tied the game at 47-47 with 2:56 remaining. A layup from Chmiel just seconds later gave the Warriors a lead they held onto for the remainder of the game.
