2025 Softball Team Huddle Before Nova Southeastern

Shannon Edelman’s Late Home Run, Warriors' Triple Play Claim Game 1 as ESU Splits Doubleheader

2/7/2025 10:19:00 PM

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 16 East Stroudsburg University softball team went 1-1 against RV Nova Southeastern in a Friday evening doubleheader at NSU Softball Stadium.

The Warriors (2-2) won an extra-inning thriller over the Sharks (4-3) in Game 1, before falling in Game 2.

Pitching Notables
Sarah Davenport (W, 2-0) pitched another 11-strikeout complete game and allowed only one run in eight innings of work. Davenport struck out the side twice in the game, first in the second inning and again in the sixth inning.

Batting Notables
Shannon Edelman (pictured above) was the hero in Game 1. On the day, she went 2-for-4 at the plate, including the go-ahead home run in the eighth inning, which propelled ESU to the first-game win.

Tulana Mingin had a productive day offensively with two hits, two stolen bases, an RBI, and a walk.

Tatum Kresley also had a solid performance, as she tallied two hits, two stolen bases and crossing home plate twice.

Abigail Weirich managed two RBIs on the day, including driving in the first run in Game 1 and an RBI single in Game 2.

How It Happened – Game 1
The Warriors didn't take long to score, getting the first run on the board in the first inning. The run was set up by a bunt single from Kresley. She then stole second, which forced an errant throw that allowed her to advance to third. Weirich would drive Kresley in with a ground out to second to put ESU on top.

The next run wouldn't come across the plate until the bottom of the seventh inning when the Sharks hit a sacrifice fly to temporarily tie the game.

The Warriors responded in the eighth inning. With two outs and nobody on base, Edelman hammered a 1-0 pitch over the left-field wall to give ESU the lead (shown below).

In the bottom half of the inning, Nova Southeastern threatened with no outs and runners at the corners, but the Warriors turned a crazy triple play (shown below), throwing two runners out at home to preserve the lead and take the win.

How It Happened – Game 2
In the nightcap, the Sharks came away with the victory to split the doubleheader. The Warriors looked to keep the momentum going with RBI singles by Mingin and Weirich to take an early 2-0 lead.

However, the tide shifted toward Nova Southeastern for the remainder of the game. The Sharks had back-to-back four-run innings in the second and third to take an 8-2 lead, eventually winning 10-2.

Up Next
ESU will play again tomorrow in Miami Shores, with a noon game against Barry and a 3 p.m. matchup against the Colorado School of Mines.
