EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) announced that East Stroudsburg University women's basketball senior Emily Chmiel has been named to the D2CCA All-Atlantic Region First Team for the first time in her career.
Chmiel becomes the first Warrior to earn All-Region honors since Imani Brown was named to the second team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (now College Sports Communicators) in 2018. She is also ESU's first All-Region First Team selection since 1996, when Stacy Perryman and Lori Pio earned Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) All-Region First Team honors.
In 28 games, Chmiel averaged 22.3 points and 12.3 rebounds per game while shooting 52% from the field in her second and final season with the Warriors. Nationally, she led all of Division II in double-doubles, ranked third in rebounds per game, and was fifth in points per game. Chmiel also broke the program's single-season scoring record, surpassing Perryman's 30-year mark.
With her first-team selection, Chmiel is now eligible for D2CCA All-America honors, which will be announced later this month.
The last Warrior to earn All-America recognition was Perryman in 1995, and the last All-America center was Tonia Lloyd in 1990. Both were honored by the Eastman Kodak Company (Kodak).
Sports information directors from NCAA Division II Atlantic Region schools and conferences nominated and selected the all-region teams. The process concludes with All-American selections announced later in the month. The Atlantic Region consists of all schools in the CIAA, MEC and PSAC along with Salem, an independent.
The team is sponsored by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association, which encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
