KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The No. 12 East Stroudsburg University softball team opened its PSAC East regular season with a commanding 2-0 sweep over No.16 Kutztown on Tuesday at North Campus Field.
The Warriors (18-4, 2-0) followed a run-rule win in Game 1 with a tighter contest in Game 2 but delivered in the clutch to complete the sweep over the Golden Bears (16-5, 0-2).
Batting Highlights
Delaney Ridgell had a stellar performance, going 6-for-7 across both games with three home runs and 10 RBIs.
Katie Master went 4-for-7, adding a home run and four RBIs.
Tatum Kresley batted .500 for the day, collecting a double, three singles and two RBIs.
Pitching Highlights
Sarah Davenport earned two wins, pitching 11 combined innings, striking out 13 and allowing just one walk.
How it Happened – Game 1
The Warriors struck early with a solo home run from Ridgell in the second inning.
In the third, ESU erupted for 11 runs, powered by a two-run double from Ridgell, a two-run homer by Master, RBI singles from Kresley and
Tulana Mingin, a triple from
Abigail Weirich, and another two-run blast from Ridgell.
Kutztown managed a lone run in the fifth, but ESU's commanding lead secured a mercy-rule victory.
How it Happened – Game 2
The Warriors carried their momentum into Game 2. Kresley and Mingin reached base in the first inning, setting up RBIs from Ridgell and Master to give ESU a 3-0 lead.
The Golden Bears responded by tying the game at 3-3 in the fifth, but a three-run inning featuring RBIs from Ridgell, Master and
Shannon Edelman put the Warriors back in control. Ridgell capped off the scoring with a two-run homer in the seventh, sealing ESU's 8-3 win.

The Warriors will host their first home PSAC East doubleheader Friday against Shippensburg, with Game 1 set for 1 p.m. at Creekview Park.
