SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 12 East Stroudsburg University women's lacrosse team overcame an early deficit to dominate Shippensburg, 13-7. Entering the fourth period, ESU held a nine-goal advantage.
The Warriors (7-3, 4-1) used a pair of decisive runs to pull away from the Raiders (5-5, 0-5) and secure their fourth straight victory.
Game Highlights
Lauren Hallman and
Sadie Kauffman each recorded four points, tying for the game high.
Hallman tallied three goals and an assist while also causing two turnovers and collecting three ground balls.
Kauffman scored four goals, secured three draw controls, and picked up two ground balls.
She now has 49 goals on the season. Entering the game, Kauffman ranked fifth in Division II in goals and was the only freshman in the top 25.
Campbell Heller notched three points on a game-high three assists and caused two turnovers.
Ariana Tucci,
Jolee Roth, and
Paige Moreland each contributed two points, while
Emily Varilla tied for the game high in caused turnovers with two.
Goalie
Abby Simonetti recorded a season-high 18 saves and a season-best 72% save percentage, limiting Shippensburg's scoring opportunities. Entering the game, she ranked fifth in Division II in save percentage.
How It Happened
The hosts struck first, but ESU responded with back-to-back goals from
Lauren Hallman and
Hannah Schiemer to take a 2-1 lead. After the Raiders tied the game at 2, Tucci and Kauffman both scored consecutive goals, sparking a 6-2 advantage.
Following another SU goal, Hallman and Kauffman combined for four straight goals, with
Lauren Waite adding to the run to cap a 5-0 Warriors surge, making it an 11-3 game.
Late in the third,
Jamie Butt and Moreland each found the net, securing ESU's 13th goal as the Warriors went on to win 13-7.
