BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University women's tennis team saw its historic postseason run, in years, come to an end on Friday morning, falling to west top-seeded IUP by a 5–0 score in the PSAC Semifinals at Bloomsburg University.
After advancing to the conference semifinals for the first time since the 1979–80 season, the Warriors battled a 31
st nationally ranked IUP squad that entered the tournament as the top seed in the West Division.
How it Happened in Doubles
No. 1 Doubles: the No. 1 regionally ranked duo, Dani Ramos and Ming Deewajee set the tone for IUP with a 6–0 victory over Marketa Belyakova and
Louise Boyer-Vidal.
No. 2 Doubles: Annemiek Sterk and L. Hartlohner secured the doubles point with another 6–0 win, this time over
Ariel Kelsick and
Lea Stefanovic.
No. 3 Doubles: The match between Hannah Beitat/Asel Calbay (IUP) and
Bega Gotor/
Claudia Ermina (ESU) was left unfinished with IUP leading 5–1.
How it Happened in Singles (finish order)
No. 6 Singles: Annemiek Sterk delivered a 6–2, 6–0 win over
Bega Gotor to extend IUP's lead to 2–0.
No. 5 Singles: Asel Calbay followed with a 6–1, 6–3 win over
Gianina Speranza.
No. 3 Singles: Dani Ramos clinched the match against
Louise Boyer-Vidal in straight sets, 6–4, 6–2, giving the Crimson Hawks the decisive fifth point.
No. 2 Singles: Ming Deewajee defeated 6–2, 6–3 victory over
Lea Stefanovic.
No. 1 Singles:
Marketa Beladova showed resilience after dropping the first set 2–6, rallying with a strong 6–3 win in the second to force a deciding third. Her match against L. Hartlohner was left unfinished, securing Beladova an undefeated record in PSAC singles play this season.
No. 4 Singles:
Ariel Kelsick fell 2–6 in the opening set but continued to fight in a competitive second set against Hannah Beitat. The match was left unfinished with Kelsick trailing 3–4 in the second.
