Game Notes
About the Warriors: The ESU softball team has been on a tear all season—and especially down the stretch. Since April 18, the Warriors have posted a 12-1 record, including an impressive 6-1 mark against NCAA Atlantic Region qualifiers: No. 3 Shepherd (2-1), No. 5 West Chester (2-0), and No. 6 Bloomsburg (2-0).
Last week, ESU had four players earn PSAC East First Team honors: Abigail Weirich (OF), Delaney Ridgell (C/DP), Tatum Kresley (2B), and Sarah Davenport (P) were all recognized for their standout performances this season.
Weirich was also named PSAC East Athlete of the Year and carried that momentum into the PSAC Championship, batting .444 with eight hits, three doubles, four RBIs, and a .611 slugging percentage during the tournament.
Davenport earned Tournament MVP honors after dominating in the circle—pitching four complete games, totaling 26 innings with 35 strikeouts and a 1.34 ERA.
The Coach: In her tenth season at East Stroudsburg, Jaime Wohlbach has built a powerhouse, guiding the Warriors to four NCAA Tournament appearances (2021, 2023, 2024, 2025), an NCAA Atlantic Region title in 2023, and three straight PSAC East regular-season crowns (2023–2025). She led ESU to its first-ever trip to the NCAA Division II College World Series in 2023, where the Warriors finished No. 5 in the nation, and just last week, they captured the program’s second PSAC Championship.
Scouting Bowie State: Headlining the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) ranks for the Bulldogs is Coreena Dunham, who has been on a tear this season. Dunham is batting .402 (9th in the CIAA), owns a .465 on-base percentage, and leads the conference with 68 runs scored—third-most in Division II. She also tops the CIAA with a .669 slugging percentage and finished second in stolen bases with 29.
Dunham was joined by Jayla Hill, Taylor Dawkins, Mikayla Amos, Mykhl Young, and Ja'chelle Mosley on the All-CIAA teams.
Despite not making an all-conference team, Lindsey George was named CIAA Player of the Year for her elite two-way play. In the circle, George led the league in innings pitched, strikeout-to-walk ratio, and strikeouts per seven innings. Offensively, she posted a .464 on-base percentage, ranking 11th in the CIAA.
The Coach: Ed Powell is in his sixth season at the helm of the Bulldogs, guiding the program to three consecutive CIAA championships and now a third straight NCAA Tournament appearance. Despite their consistent postseason presence, Bowie State is still searching for its first NCAA Tournament win under Powell, having gone 0-4 in their previous two appearances.
A Look Ahead: The winner of this game will advance to play on Friday, May 9 at 10:00 a.m. against the winner of the No. 4 Shippensburg vs. No. 5 West Chester matchup. The losers of both opening-round games will meet in an elimination game later that day at 12:30 p.m.
