EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University field hockey team held Bentley University scoreless and recorded a 3-0 win playing at Whitenight Field for the first time this season.
The Warriors improve to 4-0 on the year with the win while the Falcons fall to 0-4. ESU has evened the all-time record against Bentley, as the squads are 6-6. The Warriors have claimed the last four meetings since 2021.
How it Happened
The Warriors got on the board with 4:39 to play in the first quarter when sophomore
Megan Rafter deflected in the initial shot off the stick of senior
Kerry Kaufman to put ESU in front, 1-0.
The Falcons and Warriors played scoreless second and third quarters, but not without opportunities. ESU peppered Bentley's goalkeeper with 10 shots and had nine penalty corners through the second and third quarters.
ESU tacked on two more goals in the fourth quarter, starting with junior
Minke Klijn finding the back of the cage after multiple shots in front of the goal during the 49th minute. Five minutes later, Kaufman lifted a shot into the net off a penalty corner, which was assisted by junior
Rylie McGrath for the final goal of the game.
Notable
Kaufman tallied her second goal and second assist of the season, bringing her point total to six.
Klijn scored her first goal of the season while McGrath's first assist on the year puts her at three points on the season.
Junior
Sydney Pope started the game in goal for the Warriors and played the first half of action, recording a save and improved to 3-0 on the season. Junior
Jet Vermeulen played the final 30 minutes of the contest and recorded a save.
ESU outshot the Falcons 23-2 with 14 shots on goal to Bentley's two. Penalty corners favored the Warriors as well, earning 20 to the Falcons two.
The Warriors were awarded two penalty strokes, one in the third and fourth quarters, but Falcons' goalie Annie Lorenz made the saves.
