FROSTBURG, Md. – The East Stroudsburg University field hockey team scored four first-quarter goals on their way to a decisive 5-0 shutout victory against Frostburg State on Sunday afternoon.
The Warriors dominated the game from start to finish, holding a significant advantage in shots (27-0) and penalty corners (12-1). ESU put 17 of their 27 shots on goal, forcing Frostburg State's goalkeeper Zoe Barnes to make 12 saves.
Notables
Minke Klijn led ESU offensively, scoring a hat trick with three goals. Klijn now has a team leading six goals on the season.
Megan Rafter and
Elaiana Rivera-Lagalla each added a goal to the Warriors' tally.
The ESU defense was impenetrable, not allowing Frostburg State a single shot for the entire game.
The Warriors registered 27 total shots, with 14 coming in the first quarter alone.
How it Happened
ESU wasted no time showing off their offense with Klijn finding the back of the net just over two minutes into the game for her first goal. Klijn scored again less than three minutes later at the 4:52 mark to quickly give the Warriors a 2-0 lead.
The first-quarter barrage continued as
Megan Rafter scored at 8:09, followed by a goal from
Elaiana Rivera-Lagalla with less than a minute remaining in the period (14:42). The Warriors entered the first break with a commanding 4-0 advantage.
After a scoreless second and third period, Klijn completed her hat trick with a goal at the 50:34 mark in the fourth quarter, capping the scoring for a 5-0 final.
