Warriors Use Strong Second Half to Top Shepherd, 74-67

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg women's basketball team completed a second half comeback to defeat the Shepherd Rams Saturday afternoon, 74-67.

The Warriors improved to 9-5 overall and 4-3 in conference action, while the Rams dropped to 2-10 overall and 0-7 in the PSAC. 

Notables 
Brie Droege recorded a season-high 26 points, grabbed five rebounds, one steal, and one assist. Brooke Droege followed with 15 points, five rebounds, and three assists and steals apiece. Lacie Kringe rounded out the top scorers with 11 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and contributed a team-high six assists. Caitlin Marten posted nine points, a career-high 10 rebounds, two blocks, and one steal. 

The victory marked the Warriors' second win of the season when trailing at halftime. ESU is now tied with Lock Haven and West Chester in the PSAC East standings with a 4-3 conference record. 

How it Happened 
Brie opened the scoring for the Warriors with a jumper that was assisted by Kringe. Consecutive baskets from Brooke and Marten put ESU in front 10-9 at the 4:02 mark. A three-pointer from Jess Devine extended the lead to 13-9 before Shepherd closed the quarter on an 11-2 run.

Brooke scored the opening basket in the second quarter and Emma Thornton followed with a layup and one after a steal by Avery White at 7:54. A jumper from Brie pulled ESU within one point at 7:36, but Shepherd answered with a 6-0 run. Two late three-pointers by the Rams and a 6-0 scoring stretch from Brie sent the Warriors into halftime trailing 37-32. 

The third quarter started with Brie making a layup and one, followed by a jumper from Kringe that tied the game at 37 each. At 7:51, White knocked down a three at 7:51 to give ESU the lead, and the Warriors followed with a 10-2 run to go up 50-41. Both teams traded baskets to close the quarter, with ESU maintaining its advantage. 

In the fourth quarter, a Brooke three-pointer and layups from Kringe and Brie pushed their lead to 59-48 around the eight minute mark. A three-pointer from Brie at the 2:36 mark ended a 10-2 run from the Rams, 66-58. Kringe scored five late points, and free throws from Marten and Brooke sealed the 74-67 victory.
