EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg women's basketball team came up just short in a tightly contested PSAC home matchup, falling 71-68 to Bloomsburg Tuesday evening.
The Warriors are now 9-6 overall and 4-4 in conference action, while Bloomsburg improved to 8-6 overall and 4-3 in the PSAC.
Notables
Brooke Droege led the team with 19 points, grabbed five rebounds, had three steals, and three assists. Lacie Kringe and Brie Droege each contributed 14 points and combined for 14 rebounds. Brie added four assists and two steals, while Caitlin Marten grabbed five rebounds and scored 10 points.
How it Happened
Bloomsburg opened the game with a three-pointer, and Brie followed with a jumper, 3-2. At 7:39, the Huskies made their second three before a layup from Avery White tied the game at six apiece. Brooke converted a steal and one to give the Warriors the lead, 9-6. Bloomsburg responded with a 10-0 run that ended with back-to-back layups from Marten around the 1:30 minute mark. ESU added three points to end the first quarter ahead, 17-16.
The Warriors opened the second quarter with a 13-4 run that ended at 3:38 with a Bloomsburg layup, 30-22. With 1:34 on the clock, Brie made a jumper and White followed with a three-pointer to extend ESU's lead to 12 points, 35-23. The quarter ended with ESU in front, 39-28.
Bloomsburg opened the third quarter by hitting all four of its three-point attempts, cutting the deficit to two points at 43-41. The Warriors responded with a three-pointer from Kringe at 5:16 and a jumper from Brie at 4:28, 48-43. The teams traded basket with ESU heading into the fourth ahead, 55-49.
Kringe and Brooke added the first two baskets for the Warriors while Bloomsburg hit a three-pointer, 59-52. Around the five-minute mark, the Huskies went on an 8-2 run to take the lead, 64-63. White's three-pointer with 0:27 on the clock put ESU within one. After Bloomsburg hit both free throws, ESU's final possession came up empty, resulting in a 71-68 loss.
