MANSFIELD, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg University women's basketball team held off Mansfield, 59-53, Wednesday night to earn its 10th win of the season.
The Warriors improved to 10-6 overall and 5-4 in conference action, while Mansfield dropped to 2-14 overall and 0-8 in the PSAC.
Notables
Brie Droege recorded her first double-double with 17 points and a career high of 10 rebounds. Brie also grabbed two steals and posted two blocks. Lacie Kringe added 15 points, eight rebounds, five assists, one block, and four steals. Avery White rounded out the top scorers with 13 points, grabbed four rebounds, one steal, and had four assists. Jess Devine and Lilly Riggi each grabbed three steals, while Devine also added four assists and grabbed five rebounds. Caitlin Marten grabbed a career high of 11 rebounds, including seven defensive rebounds.
How it Happened
Brie opened the game with a quick three-pointer and Kringe followed with a 5-0 run to push ESU ahead, 7-0. Kringe, Brie, and White added three consecutive baskets to extend the Warriors' lead to 11 points, 19-8. Devine added the final basket for ESU, a three-pointer at the one-minute mark.
Mansfield continued into the second quarter with a 7-0 run that ended with a Brie jumper at 5:41. A 5-0 run from the Mountaineers cut the deficit to just one at 28-27. However, Kringe added a layup at the 0:50 mark to send the Warriors into the half ahead, 30-27.
In the third quarter, the scoring began 2-2 before White and Marten made consecutive baskets around the five-minute mark. At the 3:00 mark, Brie reached 15 points with a layup that was assisted by Devine. Lilly Riggi hit a three-pointer at 1:48 to extend the lead to 12 points, 43-31. The Mountaineers closed out the quarter with a three-pointer and a layup.
In the fourth quarter, Kringe and Devine began with each adding a basket, 47-36. Layups from White and Brie extended the Warrior's advantage to 13 points, 51-38. Mansfield went on a 7-0 run that ended with a Kringe layup at 3:04, 55-45. The Mountaineers came within five points after outscoring ESU 8-3, 58-53. Devine added a final free throw to close out the game, 59-53.
