PREVIEW: Women's Basketball Opens PSAC East Play at Millersville

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg women's basketball team opens PSAC East play against the Millersville Marauders on Wednesday, January 7 at 5:30 p.m. on the road.

EAST STROUDSBURG NOTES  

  • East Stroudsburg defeated Slippery Rock in their most recent game. Brooke Droege recorded a career high of 21 points while adding five rebounds and two assists. Avery White followed with 14 points, five rebounds, one steal, and posted a team high of seven assists. Rounding out the top scorers was Brie Droege with 12 points, three rebounds, and one steal. Jess Devine led the team with three steals, grabbed four rebounds, and contributed six assists.   
  • Consecutive starters for the Warriors have been Lacie KringeAvery WhiteBrooke DroegeBrie Droege, and Caitlin Marten.  
  • Brooke Droege was named the PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week on Nov. 18 after she combined eight steals, three blocks, 15 rebounds, 35 points, and averaged 37 minutes a game over the weekend.    
  • The Warriors are averaging 64.3 PPG, 37.4 RPG, 15.3 APG, 11.3 SPG, and are shooting 39.1% from the field.   
  • Despite ranking 13th in the conference in scoring offense, the Warriors sit fourth in scoring defense, holding opponents to 60.8 points per game. 
  • ESU ranks fifth in the PSAC in steals per game (11.25), led by Devine, who averages 2.8 steals and has recorded nine games with three or more. She ranks sixth in the conference in steals per game. 
  • Brie paces the Warriors with 13.3 points per game and has notched five games of 15 or more points. 
  • Brooke leads the team on the boards with 5.0 rebounds per game, including 3.5 defensive rebounds per contest. 
  • Kringe and White rank 11th and 12th respectively in the conference in assists per game. 
  • Three ESU starters are averaging double figures in scoring this season. 
  • The Warriors are 4-2 on the road and remain undefeated when leading at halftime. 
  • Eight of ESU's 12 games have been decided by 10 points or fewer, with the Warriors owning a 6-2 edge in those contests. 

SERIES HISTORY  

  • The Warriors posted a 3-7 record in the past 10 meetings and are currently on a two-game win streak, winning both contests against the Marauders last season.  
  • ESU is 34-63 against Millersville in all-time meetings and 12-37 when playing on the road. 
  • ESU last faced Millersville on Feb. 8, 2025, in East Stroudsburg, with the Warriors earning a 69-63 overtime victory. 
  • With 22 seconds left in the game and down by two points, Brie Droege made a jumper to send the game into overtime after a missed three-pointer from Millersville. 
  • In overtime, the Marauders scored the first basket before the Warriors went on an 11-point run that included consecutive three-pointers from Jessica Polin. The Marauders added a final layup and-one to give ESU the 69-63 win. 

MILLERSVILLE NOTES  

  • Millersville enters the matchup with a 4-7 overall record and an 0-5 mark in conference play. 
  • The Marauders are averaging 63.1 PPG, 44.7 RPG, 11.9 APG, 9.0 SPG, and are shooting 35.3% from the field.   
  • The Marauders rank 14th in the PSAC in scoring offense and ninth in scoring defense, allowing 66.4 PPG to their opponents. 
  • Despite being second to last in the PSAC in FG percentage, Millersville ranks fifth in team 3-PT FG percentage (30.1%) 
  • They rank second in the PSAC in combined rebounds (44.7) and are first in offensive rebounds (16.6).  
  • Three consistent starters for Millersville have been Daniella Ranieli, Jillian Crawford, and Kelly Cleaver. 
  • Millersville has two players that rank in the conference's top 25 in rebounds per game. Rhyan Mitchell ranks 12th (6.3) and Kelly Cleaver ranks 22nd (5.8). 
  • Millersville has recorded 40 blocked shots this season, with Morgan Mahoney and Kelly Cleaver both averaging one per game.  
  • Cleaver leads the team in both blocks (11) and steals (15). 
  • Daniella Ranieli leads the team with 23 assists, 9.8 points per game, and in three-pointers with 18. 
  • Their most recent win came against Jefferson on December 19. Since then, the Marauders have faced two nationally ranked teams, Gannon and Indiana (Pa.).
