LOCK HAVEN, Pa. — After scoring a defensive touchdown and shutting out the Huskies last weekend, senior LB
Mason Smith was named the PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Smith manned the middle of the ESU defense that shut out Bloomsburg in a 34-0 win at Danny Hale Field on Saturday night. His 72-yard fumble-recovery touchdown was the Warriors' longest defensive touchdown in 12 years, as he blew up a play in the backfield and won a footrace three-quarters of the length of the field to double ESU's lead early on. He finished with two solo tackles, including one for a four-yard loss. The Hanover native helped keep an offense that was averaging 29.8 PPG completely off the scoreboard, as the Huskies fell 179 yards of total offense short of their average.
The Warriors look to continue their three-game winning streak, hitting the road again this weekend to take on the Shippensburg Raiders. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Seth Grove Stadium.
