EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg University women's basketball team wrapped up its three-game stretch with a dominant 81-54 win over Millersville on Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors are now 13-8 overall and 8-6 in conference action, while the Marauders dropped to 10-9 overall and 6-7 in the PSAC.
Notables
Avery White led the floor with 19 points, three rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Brooke Droege followed with 16 points, four steals, eight rebounds, and an assist. Lacie Kringe added 14 points while Brie Droege added nine points, six rebounds, and three steals. Emma Thornton and Jess Devine combined for seven rebounds and six assists. Skylar Soltis grabbed eight rebounds, including seven that were offensive.
How it Happened
The Warriors opened the game with baskets from White and Kringe to take an early 9-8 lead. At the 5:59 mark, a layup by Brie Droege and another from Thornton extended ESU's advantage to 13-8. Millersville closed the first quarter on a 5-0 run to tie the game at 13.
The Marauders continued into the second quarter with a 7-0 run that ended with a layup from Caitlin Marten around the 7:30 mark. East Stroudsburg responded by closing the half on a 17-2 run, taking a 30-22 lead into the break.
Millersville scored six points to open the third, while consecutive jumpers from White and Brooke kept the Warriors in front by six, 34-28. Around the five minute mark, Kringe and Brooke each made a jumper. The Warriors then scored four straight baskets in the final three minutes of the quarter to extend their lead to 51-38.
Kringe opened the fourth quarter with a jumper, followed by a layup from Brooke and a three-point play by Devine to push the lead to 18. Midway through the quarter, Millersville went on a brief 7-2 run, which was answered by four made free throws from Brooke. At 3:44, Thornton recorded a steal and finished on the other end to make it 68-50. She later assisted on a three-pointer by White and a layup by Brooke. Riley Nausedas added a jumper with 1:47 remaining, while Kaitlyn McGeary and Mikel Lancit closed out the scoring at the free throw line.
