Women’s Basketball Falls to Lock Haven on the Road

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg University women's basketball team was unable to hold off Lock Haven in the final quarter, falling 70-59 on the road Wednesday evening.

The Warriors move to 16-10 overall and 11-8 in the PSAC, while the Bald Eagles improve to 18-5 and 15-3 in conference play.

Notables 

Brie Droege set a new career high of 29 points as she went 12-for-16 from the field, including three three-pointers. Lacie Kringe added 10 points, three rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Emma Thornton grabbed four rebounds, three assists, and scored eight points. Defensively, Caitlin Marten led with five rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. 

How it Happened 

Brie opened the scoring with the first six points for ESU, and Kringe added a layup at the 3:59 mark. Lock Haven built a 13-9 advantage before Brie's three-pointer trimmed the deficit to one, 13-12. The Bald Eagles answered from deep, and Devine converted two free throws to close the quarter with ESU trailing 16-14.

Brie opened the scoring for the Warriors with a three-pointer at 7:51. The Bald Eagles went on a 7-0 run before White sank a three-pointer at 4:01 to make it 26-20. The Bald Eagles added seven more points down the stretch, while Brie accounted for two baskets to send the Warriors into halftime down 32-24.

Kringe opened the third quarter with a layup off a Brie assist at 9:32. Brie later drilled her third triple of the night at 8:04, and jumpers from Marten and Kringe brought ESU within two, 37-35. The third ended with three free throws from Thornton and a layup from Brie, 47-42. 

Thornton scored early in the fourth quarter on a Devine assist. Brie and Thornton each added a pair of free throws to pull ESU within four, 52-48. After a Devine layup, the Bald Eagles went on a quick 5-0 run that ended with a Brie jumper at 5:15. Kringe and Brie added baskets, however the Bald Eagles sealed the game at the free-throw line, scoring their final 10 points from the stripe.
