Kauffman, Simonetti Sweep Weekly PSAC Awards for Lacrosse

3/17/2026 2:30:00 PM

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. — After two wins to open up conference play, Sadie Kauffman and Abby Simonetti were honored as the top Athlete and Defensive Athlete of the Week by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.

Sadie Kauffman continued her individual dominance as the Warriors remained perfect to start the season and opened PSAC play with two wins. In ESU's first game of the week against No. 17 Kutztown, Kauffman stuffed the stat sheet with five goals and five assists, her first double-digit point game of the season and the second of her career. In the Warriors' game versus Millersville, Kauffman delivered an all-around performance to solidify her week. Scoring once and assisting on two other tallies, she finished with a season-high eight draw controls, her sixth consecutive game of six or more draw controls.

Kauffman, who ranks inside the top three in Division II in goals and points per game, leads the conference in both categories with 5.0 and 6.7 averages, respectively.

Abby Simonetti backstopped the Warriors to two dominating wins as ESU opened conference play with double-digit goal wins over No. 17 Kutztown and Millersville last week. Against the Golden Bears, she limited them to just six goals, their lowest-offensive output of the season. Making nine saves, Simonetti shut out Kutztown for the final 25:23 of the game, allowing just one goal in the second half. Only playing the first half against the Marauders, she came up with three saves while only allowing two goals in 30 minutes, denying Millersville's only free position attempt chance as well.

Through seven starts and seven wins, Simonetti leads the conference and is second in Division II in save percentage, stopping 60.8% of all attempts on goal.

The honors are the fourth time that each has been named the top athlete and defensive athlete of the week by the conference, also marking the sixth time ESU has won both awards in the same week. The Warriors are in the midst of a historic start, getting out to a 7-0 record while winning each game handily. It's the second-longest streak to start a season, as well as the longest streak of wins by double-digit goals, as each victory has been by at least 10.

ESU looks to continue its start as the No. 10 Warriors take on Bloomsburg and Shippensburg this week, hosting the Huskies at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, at Whitenight Field.
