SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — For the fourth time this season, the ESU women's lacrosse team put up 20 goals in its win on Saturday afternoon, defeating Shippensburg 20-6. The Warriors improved to 9-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
NOTABLES
- Sadie Kauffman nearly recorded another double-digit point game, finishing with nine points on seven goals and two assists. She tied her second-best performance of the season, which came against Bentley on Feb. 21.
- Paige Moreland stood out on offense again, putting up seven points. The attacker recorded a hat trick while dishing out four assists.
- Ariana Tucci was second on the team in goals, tallying four while notching an assist as well.
- Jolee Roth was the other notable performer for the Warriors on offense, finishing with two goals and two assists.
- Abby Simonetti had her best game of the season, making 17 saves. It was the most saves for the graduate student since last season at Shippensburg when she made 18.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a slow start for the Warriors' standards, they led 3-2 after the first quarter. Shippensburg took a 2-1 lead halfway through the frame, but a man-down goal late in the first flipped momentum and kicked off a run that would define the result of the game. Moreland scored off an assist from Tucci to spark the run, and the Warriors got one more before the quarter ended off the reverse of that exchange to retake the lead.
- The Warriors dominated the second quarter in every aspect, outscoring the Raiders 11-0. In a complete team effort to keep possession constantly in the offensive zone and shut down any chances on the other end, Kauffman led the Warriors with five goals in the second, as Tucci had three to go along with her, and Lauren Hallman, Moreland, and Roth all found the back of the net. The run carried over into the second half as ESU capped off a 15-0 run after goals by Hannah Schiemer and Moreland. Simonetti shut down multiple quality looks for the Raiders, making eight saves to allow the Warriors to score their 15-straight goals.
- Each team scored four more goals to end the game, with Kauffman adding her final two before Katie Bullen and Schiemer got the Warriors to the 20-goal mark.
GAME NOTES
- The Warriors tied their third-longest winning streak in program history, matching 2018's total. ESU has only gone on longer streaks in 2022 (11) and 2017 (12).
