Kauffman Earns IWLCA Honor, Repeats with Simonetti as Top PSAC East Athletes

3/24/2026 2:30:00 PM

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — After another week of going 2-0 with two convincing wins, Sadie Kauffman and Abby Simonetti were recognized again as the PSAC East Athlete and Defensive Athlete of the Week for the second-straight time, while Kauffman was also named the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Co-Athlete of the Week.

The pairing was the top duo in the PSAC East last week as well, earning the honors this time after 19-6 and 20-6 wins over Bloomsburg and at Shippensburg.

Kauffman put together another dominant week as East Stroudsburg went 2-0 against Bloomsburg and Shippensburg. The sophomore recorded 11 goals, three assists, and 17 draw controls. Kauffman wasted no time on Wednesday in the Warriors' conference home opener against Bloomsburg, scoring the first goal of the game 11 seconds in. She'd go on to finish with four goals on seven shots with an assist and a season-high nine draw controls.

Closing out the week against Shippensburg, she tallied seven more goals, a pair of assists, and eight draw controls. Kauffman's play charged a 15-0 run that spanned 28:24 of game time, scoring five of her goals and notching both of her assists during that stretch. She's helped lead the Warriors to a 9-0 start overall and 4-0 in conference play.

Simonetti delivered another shutdown stretch in net for ESU against Bloomsburg and Shippensburg. Simonetti only had to play the first quarter for ESU against Bloomsburg, as the Warriors jumped out to an 8-1 lead with her between the pipes.

On Saturday, at Shippensburg, Simonetti stood on her head for her best performance of the season. She made a season-high 17 saves, posting a .737 save percentage, allowing the Warriors to go on a 15-0 run in their 20-6 win over the Raiders. During that stretch, Simonetti made eight straight stops, allowing ESU to get out in transition and score quickly on offense to extend its lead. Her play in net has helped the Warriors build their third-longest winning streak in program history.

This marks Kauffman's seventh time being named the top PSAC East Athlete of the Week, winning the award four times last season and now three times this year. For Simonetti, it's her fifth time overall, with two times this season and three times in 2024. This also marks the first time ever that the same two Warriors have won back-to-back Athlete and Defensive Athlete of the Week Awards.

Kauffman's IWLCA nod is the 11th time a Warrior has earned the honor, all since 2017. After Paige Moreland won the award on March 10, this marks the first time ESU has had multiple honorees throughout the season by the IWLCA since 2022, the third year with at least two athletes receiving the recognition.

ESU prepares for one of its top matchups of the season, as they'll host No. 10 West Chester at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, at Whitenight Field.
