ESU Comes Up Short Despite Comeback Effort in Game Two

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg University softball team was swept by Lock Haven on Tuesday, dropping the opener 5-1 before falling 7-6 in a tightly contested second game that ended in extra innings.

The Warriors are now 16-12 overall and 4-6 in conference action.

Notables

Delaney Ridgell and Tulana Mingin each tallied three hits on the day. Kaitlynn Colangelo, Kinsley Proepper, and Katie Master added two hits apiece, while Macy Crum, Georgia Tym, and Maddy Pritchard each recorded one.

Game 1

The Warriors loaded the bases in the first inning behind singles from Ridgell and Proepper and a walk by Megan Chroniger, but a final strikeout left them stranded.

The Bald Eagles scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third. They began the inning with a triple down the right field line then scored on a sacrifice bunt.

The fourth inning followed with three quick outs on both sides. Lock Haven extended its lead in the fifth, scoring four runs on five hits.

The Warriors got on the board in the sixth. Ridgell led off with a double to right center, advanced on a flyout by Chroniger, and scored on an RBI single from Master.

Game 2

The Bald Eagles scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning.

The Warriors answered in the third, starting with Mingin reaching on a hit-by-pitch and eventually scoring on Proepper's RBI single. The bases became loaded after Chroniger drew her second walk of the day. On the first pitch, Colangelo launched her first home run of the season and second of her career for a grand slam to put ESU in front, 5-1.

The Bald Eagles responded quickly, scoring twice in the bottom of the third and adding another run in the fifth to cut the lead to 5-4.

The Warriors began the seventh inning with Mingin's single to left field. She then stole second and scored on a throwing error following Maddin Grow's bunt, pushing the lead to 6-4.

However, Lock Haven rallied in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 6-6 and force extras. In the eighth, the Bald Eagles used a double, a walk, and a walk-off RBI single to complete the sweep.

Up Next

The Warriors return to action on Friday, April 3, for a doubleheader against Bloomsburg at Creekview Park.
