EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — The ESU women's lacrosse team was hot out of the gate, scoring 14 goals in the first half, allowing them to roll past Millersville, 17-6. The win elevates the Warriors to 14-0 on the season, continuing their record-setting season.
NOTABLES
- Ariana Tucci was the top scorer for the Warriors, recording five goals while notching two assists. She's now totaled 22 points across ESU's last three games.
- Sadie Kaufman was another one of the top contributors to the team with four goals of her own. The sophomore also came down with six draw controls, as well as an assist and a caused turnover.
- Paige Moreland was the third Warrior to score a hat trick, doing so efficiently, going 3-for-3 on shots. She dished out a pair of assists as well, bringing her season total to a team-high 38.
- Defense for the Warriors was an all-around team effort, with 11 different players earning a caused turnover. Molly Atwell, Carly Brady, and Courtney Reynolds all led the team in the category, noting two for each. Brady also paced the team in ground balls, picking up three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tucci's big game started nearly instantly, scoring her first goal of the game within the first minute on a free-position attempt. Hallman followed with her own free-position goal just over a minute later. The Marauders answered with a goal after winning the draw, but their momentum was short-lived as Tucci scored her second goal before the 10-minute mark. The Warriors remained on offense through three more possessions, resulting in two goals scored by Kaufman, with Moreland scoring one in between the tallies. Back-and-forth action between both teams led to 3:30 of no scores before Kaufman broke it with her third goal of the game. Tucci matched her costar with her own hat trick before scoring again in the final minutes of the first quarter.
- The second quarter opened similarly to the first, with Moreland's first-minute goal being answered by Millersville before ESU went on to score four consecutive goals, closing the first half with a 12-goal lead.
- Moreland opened the third quarter the same way she started the previous frame before Millersville recorded two goals of its own. Once the Warriors regained possession, it was Hallman evening the goal count for the last goal of the quarter.
- It wasn't until the 10:10 mark in the fourth that a score was recorded, with the Marauders taking back another. The game went scoreless with tough defense from both teams until Delia Lederman scored her first goal of the game, with the assist from Courtney Pellison, with 1:55 left in the game. Though Millersville responded with a goal in the final minute, ESU's offense proved too strong as they maintained the double-digit lead to earn the victory.
GAME NOTES
- With the winning streak reaching 14, the Warriors are now tied for the 11th-longest streak in PSAC history. They tied West Chester's 2019 team, Lock Haven's 2010 team, and Millersville's stretch between the 1989 and 1990 seasons.
