Women's Lacrosse Withstands Comeback Attempt in Win Over Shippensburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — The ESU women's lacrosse team finished its home schedule with an 18-10 victory over Shippensburg on Wednesday afternoon, picking up its 10th win at Whitenight Field to improve to 15-0.

NOTABLES
  • Sadie Kauffman and Ariana Tucci stuffed the stat sheet, combining for 19 points. Kauffman had a career day on draws, finishing with 14. She matched her career-high with eight goals, the second time she's found the back of the net that many times this season. She also dished out a pair of assists for her third 10-point game of the year.
  • Tucci was dominant on offense, scoring five times and assisting on four other tallies. Her nine-point outing was a season-high, finishing with a ground ball as well.
  • Abby Simonetti had arguably her best game since the last time she faced Shippensburg, playing three quarters and making nine stops. She stopped the Raiders' momentum in the second half, finishing with a .643 save percentage.
  • Jolee Roth and Lauren Hallman were ESU's two other players to finish with multi-point games, as both had two goals. The former had two assists, while the latter recorded one.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Warriors got out to their typical start, jumping out in front with the game's first eight goals. Tucci and Kauffman each scored in the first two minutes, with seven minutes passing before Kauffman's next goal made it 3-0. That sparked a quick attack for ESU, finishing with six goals in the span of 3:34 to make it 8-0. However, with 1:32 left in the frame, Shippensburg's Shannon Wood got the Raiders on the board, and Aubrey Bailey would make it 8-2 17 seconds before the end of the quarter.
  • Shippensburg continued to climb back into the game in the second quarter, and would outscore ESU 7-3 from their first goal from Wood to the end of the first half. Maddie Phommachanh and Brynn Hauck added a pair of tallies to open the frame before the teams traded the next four goals. Katie Bullen stopped the Raiders' stretch of four-straight goals, but Bailey got it right back. Kauffman scored ESU's 10th goal of the contest, though Phommachanh and Ali Pioli cut the deficit to three with 1:32 before the break. Hallman found Tucci in front of the net for the last goal of the first half with 45 seconds remaining, as the Warriors led 11-7.
  • Simonetti, who started the game and played the first quarter, reentered the game at the beginning of the second half and gave up next to nothing from between the pipes. She held the Raiders to one goal with 11:15 in the third, giving the Warriors a chance to put the game away. After Shippensburg's first goal of the second half, she made seven stops before the Raiders broke through again, though the game was out of reach with 2:19 remaining.
  • As Simonetti locked down ESU's net, the offense gradually rebuilt its lead for extra insurance. Tucci opened the scoring in the third quarter, and Roth would add the only other goal in a low-scoring 2-1 frame that favored the Warriors.
  • The Warriors got the first four goals of the fourth quarter, jumping out to a 17-8 lead. Goals from Hallman, Kauffman, and Tucci helped ice the game, as ESU held on to win 18-10.

GAME NOTES
  • Going back to the 2013 season, Kauffman's 14 draw controls are the single-game record for ESU women's lacrosse.
  • Roth now sits at 99 career assists, one shy of becoming the second player in program history to record 100 assists or more.
  • ESU's win streak rolls on, as the Warriors extended it to 15. The streak is tied for the 10th-longest in PSAC history, tying West Chester's 2006 team.
  • With a top-two seed in the PSAC East secured, ESU has clinched at least one more home game this season in the first round of the PSAC tournament.

UP NEXT
The Warriors wrap up the 2026 regular season on the road with two games remaining on the schedule. They'll head to Shepherd this weekend, playing the Rams at noon on Saturday, April 18, in Shepherdstown, W. Va.
