Women’s Tennis Sets Single-Season Win Streak Record

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Emerging victorious in the Saturday afternoon conference dual over Millersville, 6-1, the ESU women's tennis team earned its eighth-straight win, setting the single-season record for consecutive wins. The Warriors now elevate to 14-4 on the season, 3-0 in the conference, to remain at the top of the PSAC East standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles play marked a great start for ESU, securing the first match win of the day with Jenna Kastell and Ariel Kelsick taking it, 6-3. To lock the point, Lea Stefanovic and Theresa Bauer followed with a 6-4 victory. Looking to claim the sweep in doubles, Alice Ehrenlechner and Audrey Conover pushed their match into a tiebreaker, coming out on top, 7-5.

The Warriors started singles action with a lot of positive momentum on their side, and it showed with Bauer landing the win, allowing just four games to be taken across both sets. She was followed by Alice Ehrenlechner, shutting out her opponent in the first set and holding on to win the second. Obtaining the fourth point to clinch the win for ESU was Audrey Conover, doing so in just two sets.

Towards the top of the lineup, Kastell found herself in an evenly-matched battle. After dropping the first set, 6-4, she rallied back to win the second, 6-4. Facing a super tiebreaker, the sophomore didn't back down, coming back to take it, 10-6.

Kelsick found herself in an identical position, forcing a super tiebreaker through a second set win. Fighting hard, she tied it 5-5 after being down, but the comeback fell just short as the extra game ended 10-6.

Stefanovic fell in her first set despite a strong effort, 6-4. The No. 1 singles competitor didn't waver, however, responding with a 6-3 win in the second set. With a tiebreaker ahead of her, Stefanovic put on her best performance of the day, taking the set, 6-2, and giving a sixth point to the Warriors.
