WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Women's tennis rallied back late in the dual against West Chester on Wednesday afternoon, winning the match, 4-3. With the win, ESU remains undefeated in conference play, improving its record to 15-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles action looked to be a great start for the Warriors as
Ariel Kelsick and
Jenna Kastell won the first set of the day, 6-3. The duo of
Theresa Bauer and
Lea Stefanovic put up a hard effort to follow it up, but fell, 6-4. With the pressure of the doubles point on the line,
Alice Ehrenlechner and
Audrey Conover pushed the set, scoring five games, but ultimately lost out on the point in the 7-5 match.
Facing a retirement from Stefanovic, ESU started singles play down two points. However,
Audrey Conover quickly got the Warriors on the board, taking her match with only one game allowed across the two sets. Kastell followed it up, winning her sets, 6-1 and 6-2, respectively, to even the score. Ehrenlechner put up a long fight, but dropped the match. Kelsick was there to respond, though, claiming victory in both of her sets to prevent the Golden Rams from securing the fourth point.
The dual came down to freshman
Theresa Bauer from the No. 6 spot in the lineup. Despite dropping the first set, she rallied back to claim the second, 6-2. Facing a tiebreaker, Bauer stepped up to win the set, 6-2, securing the ninth consecutive win for ESU.
