INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The East Stroudsburg women's tennis team has been named in the initial list of NCAA DII Atlantic Region rankings, released in alphabetical order on April 15.
These rankings ultimately determine the participating teams for the NCAA Tournament. The Atlantic Region includes institutions from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), the Mountain East Conference (MEC), the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), and select independent institutions.
The first regional rankings of the year list the teams in alphabetical order with ESU as one of the nine teams to make the initial release. Joining the Warriors from the PSAC are Indiana (P.a.) and Slippery Rock, with Charleston, Fairmont State, Frostburg State, and West Virigina Wesleyan from the Mountain East Conference, Shaw from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, and Salem as an independent institution.
The three conference tournament champions receive an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. The final four teams in the region will receive at-large bids. A new set of regional rankings are released each Wednesday through the conclusion of the season.
At the time of the release, the Warriors hold a 15-4 record on the season, going 6-2 against Atlantic Region opponents. After their last dual, facing off against West Chester, ESU extended their new program record for consecutive wins in a season, currently sitting at nine.
Three different Warriors have been crowned as the PSAC Athlete of the Week this spring, with sophomore
Lea Stefanovic earning three of her own, as well as
Ariel Kelsick and
Jenna Kastell earning one apiece.
The ESU women's tennis program is led by the reigning PSAC East Coach of the Year,
Troy Haas, assisted by last year's Athlete of the Year,
Marketa Beladova. After making the conference semifinals last year as the second seed out of the PSAC East, the Warriors have built on the success, going undefeated in conference play to date.
They will continue the spring season with their Senior Day, hosting Messiah at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
