EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — For the third time this season,
Sadie Kauffman and
Abby Simonetti swept the PSAC East weekly awards, and Kauffman was named the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association's (IWLCA) Division II Offensive Athlete of the Week for the second time this year, after leading ESU to wins over Shippensburg and Shepherd, the organizations announced Tuesday afternoon.
Both Kauffman and Simonetti each set new program records with their honors this week. Kauffman's PSAC East Athlete of the Week nod was her fifth of the season, setting a new single-season program record. Simonetti has now been named the PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week six times in her career, the most in ESU history.
Against the Raiders, she tied her career-high with eight goals, adding two assists for her third 10-point game of the season. Standing out on the box score even more than her eight goals, though, were her 14 draw controls. Kauffman recorded the most draw controls in a game since at least 2013 in program history, accounting for 14 of ESU's 19 as a team. In Saturday's win at Shepherd, she helped ESU take care of business against the Rams with four goals and another four draw controls.
With her fifth PSAC East Athlete of the Week honor this season, she broke a tie between Kayleigh Pokrivka in 2022 and Emily Mitarotonda in 2023, who each won a weekly award four times. She's now earned the honor nine times in her first two seasons. She's now been named the IWLCA's Offensive Player of the Week twice this season, the third time a Warrior's earned the honor, as
Paige Moreland also won the award on March 10. It's the 12th time an ESU player has been recognized by the IWLCA in-season.
Simonetti had a strong week in net for ESU in its two victories against Shippensburg and Shepherd, playing the majority of each game and earning two wins. She made nine stops against the Raiders and 11 at Shepherd, posting a .741 save percentage on the week. She secured three ground balls versus Shippensburg, picking up one more and causing a turnover against the Rams.
For Simonetti, it's her third time winning the award this year, matching her three times from 2024. She also passed Pokrivka, who won the award five times during her career.
ESU has now won 12 PSAC East weekly awards this year, earning at least one honor in eight of the nine weeks this season. This is also the fourth time they've won both Athlete and Defensive Athlete honors in those eight weeks.
The Warriors look to complete an undefeated regular season for the first time in team history, as well as clinch the PSAC East regular season title in their final game before the postseason. They'll take on the Golden Rams at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, in West Chester, Pa.
