NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. — After setting a career-high in draw controls in ESU's 23-15 win over No. 10 West Chester,
Molly Atwell was named the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Defensive Player of the Week.
Atwell shifted the momentum in East Stroudsburg's Atlantic Region Semifinal win over the Golden Rams with her play in the midfield. All 13 of her draw controls came after the opening quarter, including six in the fourth, as ESU outscored the Golden Rams 19–10 over the final three periods. The Warriors scored four goals directly following Atwell's draw controls, helping build a 13–7 halftime advantage. Her 13 draw controls more than doubled her previous career high and helped ESU dominate the draw battle, 25–15.
She's now the third Warrior to be recognized by the IWLCA this year, as
Paige Moreland was named the Offensive Athlete of the Week in early March, and
Sadie Kauffman earned the honor two times after that. This is the 13
th time a Warrior has won the weekly award, becoming the 10
th different player to do so.
Atwell and the Warriors look to continue their postseason push this weekend against No. 13 Kutztown at noon on Saturday, May 16, at Whitenight Field.
