ESU Mourns The Loss of Bob Guzzo '67, 1982 Hall Of Fame Inductee

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — East Stroudsburg University mourns the loss of Bob Guzzo '67, a member of the ESU Athletics Hall of Fame class of 1982, who passed away on May 16, 2026.
 
In Guzzo's career at ESU, he earned national honors in three of his four seasons wrestling for the Warriors. A three-time NAIA All-American, he was ESU's first and only NAIA Champion in 1966. The same year, he finished sixth at the NCAA Championships, becoming one of ESU's first three All-Americans at the University Division.
 
Additionally, Guzzo was a PSAC champion at 123 pounds as well in 1966, ESU's sixth conference champion in program history. A leader of the team, he was named the program's Outstanding Wrestler for all four years of his time at ESU, and was the co-winner of the department's Senior Athlete Award.
 
A native of Easton, Pa., Guzzo later coached at North Carolina State University for 30 years, where he won 13 Atlantic Coast Conference championships. Retiring in 2004, he built up a 356-183-7 career record, finishing as the second-winningest coach in conference history. With the Wolfpack, he coached 86 ACC Champions, 24 All-Americans, and four national champions. Guzzo was inducted into both the NC State Athletics Hall of Fame and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
 
Guzzo is survived by his wife, Janis Fish, their two daughters, Gina and Valerie; son Robert, and daughter Kristi.
