POCONO MANOR, Pa. — Five members of the ESU men's wrestling team competed in the 2026 Phil Portuese Northeast Regional Championship, with
Luke Ciampa,
Layton Schmick, and
Austin Noe earning gold medals, while
Gavin Reynolds and
Brendan Ridge finished with bronzes.
Ciampa and Schmick each went 3-0 for their tournaments, as Ciampa wrestled in the senior Greco-Roman 179-196.7 bracket, while Schmick was in the U23 freestyle 238.7-282.6 bracket. Ciampa won his first two matches by technical fall over Braeden Gray and Angel Garcia, then defeated Joseph Baker by decision, 5-1. Schmick dominated in all three of his matches, winning by technical fall and not giving up a single point. He defeated Clifford Dirkes, Tim Gray, and Aiden Hidlay.
Noe competed in the U23 freestyle 156.9-160.2 bracket, going 2-0. In his first match, he defeated Richard Wood by technical fall, 16-5, in 2:17. Then, he pinned Mikey Williams in an even shorter match, this one only going 1:34.
Reynolds and Ridge each went 1-2 in their tournament runs for bronze medals. In the U23 freestyle 168.5-173.9 bracket, his technical fall win over Therrol Lafayette clinched a third-place finish. For Ridge in the U23 freestyle 189.8-195.2 bracket he split his losses with a 9-4 decision win over Braeden Gray to finish in third.
