LOCK HAVEN, Pa. — After finishing the regular season tied for first and winning a share of the PSAC East title, the Warriors had five players selected to All-PSAC teams, with
Zander Condeelis being named the top freshman and Head Coach
John Kochmansky earning Coach of the Year honors.
ESU was tied for the second-most All-PSAC East selections, as
Ryan Dewees and
Walker Zampella headlined the First Team for the Warriors. Earning Second Team spots were
Troy Davis,
Cole Dymek, and
Ethan Woods.
Kochmansky has now been named the PSAC East Coach of the Year three times, including twice in the last three seasons. Leading ESU to a 35-13 overall record and 20-7 in-conference record, the Warriors have won at least 34 regular-season games in four-straight seasons. ESU leads the conference in fielding percentage, bases on balls, fewest runs allowed, most strikeouts, and is second in OBP, batting average against, and team ERA. Kochmansky makes up over half of the times ESU's head coach has earned the award, with Glen Hayes and Vern Walsh earning the honor once each.
Condeelis, a redshirt freshman who transferred in from Canisius, has been ESU's day one starter at third base. He joins an illustrious group of players to be named the PSAC East Freshman of the Year, becoming the seventh Warrior alongside
Jack Rothenhausler, Robert Patete, Dave Boyer, Nick Farkas, Bob Wineburg, and Jeff Trenberth to win the award. Condeelis is batting .326 with an OBP of .487, fifth- and second-best on the team, respectively. His OBP ranks 14
th in the conference, as he's been a positive hitter from the nine hole all season. His nine strikeouts are tied for the third-fewest among PSAC batters with more than his 86 at-bats, as he's only grounded into one double play as well. On the hot corner, he has a .984 fielding percentage and has turned nine double plays.
Dewees and Zampella each earned All-PSAC First Team honors for the first time, putting bows on each of their careers. By making the First Team, they become the 74
th and 75
th different players to do so, including the 40
th and 41
st under Kochmansky. Dewees also became the 16
th starting pitcher to make the First Team.
Dewees finished the regular season as the PSAC strikeout king, with 53 by swinging and 28 looking for 81 total. His ERA of 2.64 was third-best, as his seven wins were tied for the fifth-most among qualified pitchers. When Dewees has been on the bump, ESU has historically had the upper hand. His career record of 24-6 is the second-best winning percentage in program history and is the 16
th pitcher in program history to finish with a career ERA below 4.0 while pitching a minimum of 100.0 IP. With 186 career strikeouts, he ranks 10
th, while his 3.4 strikeout-to-walk ratio is sixth-best.
Zampella was one of the team's most consistent hitters all season, posting career highs in batting average, .355, slugging percentage, .539, OBP, .465, extra-base hits, 18, while also striking out the fewest times in a season with 24. With 16 stolen bases this year, he moved up to a tie for the fifth-most with 63 in his career. The four players with more all had four seasons under their belt, while Zampella has done so in just three years at ESU. Zampella led the Warriors with 82 total bases this season and was one of two players to start all 48 games heading into the postseason. With 68 putouts, 92 assists, and four errors, he's posted a fielding percentage of .976.
Woods earned All-PSAC honors for the second time in as many seasons, improving with each outing down the stretch. He was named the PSAC East Pitcher of the Week in two of the last three weeks of the regular season, going 5-3 on the year with 52 strikeouts and 20 bases on balls. Pitching 100.2 IP during his two seasons at ESU, his 2.95 ERA is the seventh-best in program history, as he has the lowest mark of a Warrior starting pitcher since 1981.
Dymek was the Warriors' shutdown man out of the bullpen, only allowing four earned runs in 13 appearances and 22.0 IP for a 1.64 ERA. He struck out 23 batters while allowing 18 hits and nine bases on balls. Dymek had five appearances where he pitched at least 2.0 IP, including a season-high 3.0 of scoreless relief pitching versus Mansfield. He picked up his lone win of the season in the Warriors' 2-0 victory over Saint Anselm in late February, and finished with a team-best five saves, which were tied for the third-most in the PSAC.
Rounding out ESU's All-PSAC selections is Davis, who became a full-time starter in the outfield this season. He started all 40 games he played in, leading the team with a .371 batting average, .532 slugging percentage, and 1.026 OBP. Davis nabbed a team-high 27 stolen bases while only getting caught four times, tied for third in the conference. His OBP of .494 ranked 11
th in the PSAC as well, with his season highlighted by a five-hit performance at Shippensburg. He became the 10
th player in program history to tally five hits in a game, going 5-5 with six RBI. He scored each time he got on base, becoming the sixth player to score five times, tying the program record.
