EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — Behind an energized second-half offense, the Warriors overcame a 2-0 deficit until a goal in the final second from Lock Haven tied the game 3-3. ESU now holds a 3-3-2 record on the season, staying at .500.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Bald Eagles controlled much of the early going, holding the Warriors to just one shot on goal before the 14th minute where they found the back of the net for the first time of the night.
• ESU found chances at the goal but none of them were able to fall. In the final five minutes of the half, Lock Haven mounted an offensive charge and, after a corner kick, scored their second goal of the game to take a 2-0 lead.
• The Warriors came out of the half on fire, throwing a relentless attack at the Bald Eagles. After shots from
Jace Seara and
Bat-Od Buman-Uchral ricocheted back into play,
Jeter Cardona closed the deal and drilled the first goal for ESU. The attack wasn't done there either as 30 seconds later, Cardona came into play again, assisting
Steven Arias as he scored the game-tying goal.
• With a tied game, the Warrior defense held strong through to the final 15 minutes, allowing just one shot to get off on them and creating the opportunity for
Ryan Kiernan to give the Warriors a 3-2 lead with his first goal of the night.
• The score held through a back-and-forth game of offenses, one trying to create a safety net and the other doing everything to not lose. This was the case until there were six seconds on the clock and Lock Haven was in position for a corner kick. Off the kick, the ball bounced out of a swarm of players from a header attempt straight into a Bald Eagle who took advantage of the opportunity and tied the game 3-3 with just one second left on the clock.
GAME NOTES
• This is the second time this season the Warriors have scored three goals in the second half of a game, the first time coming in the home matchup against Lackawanna.
• ESU outshot the Bald Eagles 19-9, posting 13 of those shots in the second half. With seven shots on goal, the Warriors hold the edge over Lock Haven in that category as well.
• With his goal, Kiernan has joined the small club of ESU players to score multiple goals, accompanying Arias and Cardona. Cardona is now the sole leader in assists with three and points, having nine so far.
• In his first start of the season,
Jake van Lierop recorded one shot on goal and one assist. This was also
Drew Nyce's first start of the year, getting one chance off.
• The late goal from Lock Haven breaks the previous record of the latest game-tying or winning goal from an opponent with the last goal coming at 89:54, breaking the previous record of 89:47 set at Queens last season.
