EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — Despite both teams scoring early, strong defenses throughout the second half held Wednesday night's game against the Bloomsburg Huskies to a 1-1 draw. The result drops ESU to No. 2 in the PSAC East standings, falling behind Millersville by one point after its win over Shippensburg.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Bloomsburg got an early start to the game, scoring the first goal on its first shot of the game in just the 11th minute. The Warriors were quick to answer back, however, as seven minutes later
Owen Rennie and
Drew Nyce assisted on a game-tying goal from
Steven Arias. Both teams garnered offensive runs but couldn't manage to find the back of the net to end the first half in a 1-1 tie.
• The Huskies made a strong stand defensively throughout the whole second half, holding ESU to just two shots while maintaining offensive control with five looks of their own heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
• In the closing minutes play intensified on both sides. The Warriors started building more offensive momentum, generating three chances, but were unable to get any of them to fall. Bloomsburg took two shots in the final minutes, also failing to connect on either, ending the game 1-1.
GAME NOTES
• With only one goal allowed, this is the fourth game in a row ESU has limited a team to one score or less. There have been just three games this season in which the Warriors allowed multiple goals, the most recent coming against Lock Haven.
• With tonight's goal, Arias now sits at seven on the year, continuing to lead the team in goals and points. He's been the lone scorer for ESU on four occasions so far, making crucial game-winning and game-tying plays.
