EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg University women's volleyball team opened home action with a 3-1 win over Holy Family Tuesday evening.
With today's win, the Warriors move to 4-4 on the season.
Jadyn Orava led the way with a season-high 23 kills, while Kelly Crites followed with seven and Rylee Ruggiero rounded out the top contributors with six. As a team, the Warriors totaled 12 service aces compared to Holy Family's three.
Set 1: The Warriors opened the first set with an early 3-0 lead. ESU stayed ahead until the Tigers used a 6-0 run to take a 9-6 advantage. The Warriors responded with a 7-2 run to put the score at 13-11. Another 4-0 run, highlighted by back-to-back kills from Crites, put the score at 18-13. A 5-0 run from the Warriors put them in set point position, 24-18. A kill from Orava handed the Warriors the first set, 25-19.
Set 2: Holy Family began the first set with a 7-4 advantage before a service ace from Kyra Bishop tied the score at 10-10. The Warriors jumped out to an 18-13 lead after a 7-1 run. The Tigers closed the gap to two, however, three errors from the Tigers gave ESU the second set, 25-21.
Set 3: Holy Family took an early 4-1 lead before ESU responded with a 3-0 run to tie the score at 4-4. ESU fell behind by five points and eventually came back within two on a Leah Novatne service ace. A 6-0 run by the Warriors, highlighted by kills from KiLee Kuhlman and Crites, put them ahead at 19-17. With the teams tied at 26-26, Holy Family finished the third set on an ESU service error and a kill, 28-26.
Set 4: The teams traded points to begin the fourth until the Warriors used a 5-0 run to get ahead, 9-5. Consecutive service aces from Georgia Stevens extended ESU's lead to six, 15-9. Two kills from Orava and one from Stevens put the Warriors in set point position, 24-17. Holy Family used a 3-0 run to close the gap to 24-20, however, a final service error from the Tigers gave ESU the 3-1 victory.
