SALISBURY, Md. – Sophomore
Rose Mascoli set East Stroudsburg University's course record in the women's race as the Warriors' men's and women's cross country teams won their respective divisions at the Don Cathcart Invitational hosted by Salisbury University on Saturday morning.
Mascoli's time of 21:36 was one second faster than the performance turned in by Vanessa Andes in 2003 at the course at Winter Place Park. Sophomore
Corinne Fitzgerald was second in 22:07, ESU's third-fastest in eight trips to Salisbury.
Senior
Jonna Trexler was 14th, freshman
Kim Lowry placed 16th and sophomore
Cassandra Lacorazza was 22nd as the Warriors beat second-place Mansfield by a 52-76 score.
On the men's side, ESU won its third straight title in the Cathcart Invitational behind a tight pack that included five of the top 20 runners.
Junior
Greg Laraia paced the Warriors as he has in the first three meets this season, placing third with a time of 25:19 that is ESU's second-best in the 11 years that the men's team has been competing at Salisbury.
He was followed by a trio of sophomores –
Amr Aldeen,
Mike Pereira and
Jim Romano – with junior
Sam Janssen rounding out the Warriors' top five. Sophomore
Mike Saparito crossed two seconds after Janssen and senior
Chris Zadroga and junior
Justin Kimbrough were just behind them in a very tight pack of finishers.
ESU was away from action last weekend and has another break this weekend before taking on a strong field at Lafayette on Saturday, Oct. 16.
